The Centrist Democrat International (CDI) expresses its sorrow for the passing away of Mr. HILARIÓN CARDOZO ESTEVA (1927 – 2012), former president of Venezuela’s COPEI party and prominent public man of his country.
The CDI wishes to highlight that Mr. HILARIÓN CARDOZO, besides serving his country in important public responsibilities, assumed also an international responsibility by promoting – through the ODCA and the CDI- the political project built on the foundations of the Integral Humanism.
As Secretary General of the ODCA (1985 – 1991), he was noted for his commitment to the successful struggle for the recovery of democracy in Latin America during the last years of military authoritarianism and of human rights violations.
The CDI joins the grief of COPEI; of his country, Venezuela; and of all social-Christians in Latin America who regret his departure and remain grateful for his legacy.
