Political parties play a central role in democratic governance around the globe. However, the actual crisis and decline of democracy in many countries and regions is also the responsibility of political parties. Political parties have been the victims of constant attacks by actors that constantly seek to undermine our democracies, but have been also contributing, directly or indirectly, to the deepening of structural problems faced by our democracies due to their inability to fulfil their main purpose: to represent the people and to deliver results when in government. Hence, political parties must be able to adapt to the new circumstances and preserve their essential role in protecting and maintaining our democratic systems. The member parties of the IDC-CDI bear a special responsibility in this respect because they are, by their very nature, significant pillars of representative democracy in over 70 countries.
In order to support its member parties in this endeavour, the IDC-CDI will start the series of online seminars ‘Improving the Performance of Centre-Right Political Parties’. This political training programme was designed to provide the necessary theoretical and practical tools to improve the performance of our centre-right political parties. In each session experts will discuss how to enhance our parties’ ability to connect with voters by upgrading their programme, their internal organisation, their anchoring in society and their capacity to project leadership.
In this context, we are pleased to invite you to participate in the first session titled “The modernization of political party programs”, which will be held through the Zoom platform on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, at 16:00 (CEST) / 11:00 (Brasilia) / 09:00 (Bogota and Lima). In order to address specific challenges and provide targeted recommendations to our political parties in Latin America, this session will be conducted in Spanish only. We will soon be announcing the dates to another session on the same topic in English for our member parties from other continents.
