Afonso Dhlakama was vice-president of the IDC-CDI for many years, representing not only his party at the international level, but also Mozambique and Africa.
He was a person of great virtue, simple and friendly, of whom we harbour unforgettable memories. He was a great friend.
He was a leader whose sights were always set on the struggle for and the defence of democracy, as he demonstrated throughout his political life.
His final challenge was to achieve a definitive peace for Mozambique, through his personal conversations with President Nyusi. For both leaders reaching a definitive agreement was a top priority, and the talks were progressing very well. Now a new stage begins in which everyone must respect his memory and continue talks to secure the peace for which he worked and sacrificed during his final years.
