“Resolution on the poisoning of Alexei Navalny <\/p>\n
The IDC-CDI deplores the poisoning of the Russian opponent Alexei Navalny on August 20,
\n2020 in the city of Tomsk and repudiates the violent and inhuman strategies that seek to
\nsilence brave citizens who denounce corruption and fight for democracy in Russia.<\/p>\n
The
\nconfirmation by independent laboratories in Germany, France and Sweden that a chemical
\nweapon such as the nerve agent novichok has once again been used to silence potential
\nthreats to the Russian regime requires a strong response from the international community.<\/p>\n
In this context, the IDC Executive Committee: <\/p>\n
–
\nsupports an international investigation with the participation of the United Nations, the
\nCouncil of Europe and the European Union that seeks to clarify the poisoning of Alexei
\nNavalny;
\n–
\nrequires the Russian authorities to cooperate with the investigations in order to identify
\nthose responsible for this attempted murder;
\n–
\nsupports the proponents of the drawing up of Magnitsky legislation at European level, to
\nallow for the sanctioning of foreign individuals involved in cases of corruption and human
\nrights violations;
\n–
\nrecognizes that, in this context, the continuation of the North Stream 2 project shall be
\ndiscussed until Russia abandons its aggressive international foreign policy;
\n–
\nwishes Alexei Navalny a speedy and complete recovery and hopes he will continue to
\ncontribute to the construction of a democratic Russia that promotes international peace.<\/p>\n
