The coronavirus pandemic that hit the world from January 2020 onwards has led to a major,
\nmulti-dimensional global crisis.<\/p>\n
Pressure on national health services, a major economic
\ndownturn and new sources of tension on the world stage are just some of the most obvious
\nnegative consequences that spring to mind.<\/p>\n
The coronavirus pandemic shows that new health
\ncrises can emerge at any time, and that health threats do not respect borders.<\/p>\n
Awareness and
\ndemand for cross-border cooperation, for coordinated response and for high levels of
\npreparedness, have risen.<\/p>\n
The IDC-CDI: <\/p>\n
1.<\/p>\n
Welcomes the joint EU-level action against the pandemic, which led to find the first
\neffective coronavirus vaccine.<\/p>\n
2.<\/p>\n
Welcomes the European vaccines strategy, which ensures the quality, safety and efficacy
\nof vaccines whereas all EU Member States got access to COVID-19 vaccines at the same
\ntime based on population size while leading the global solidarity effort.<\/p>\n
3.<\/p>\n
Supports the demands of the World Health Organization whereas equitable access to
\nCOVID-19 vaccines for all countries needs to be ensured and to strengthen global
\nproduction capacities for therapeutics and vaccines.<\/p>\n
4.<\/p>\n
Underlines its commitment to the principle of universal, equitable and affordable access
\nto vaccines, especially for the most vulnerable countries.<\/p>\n
5.<\/p>\n
Remembers where there is crisis, there is also opportunity.<\/p>\n
Areas of potential
\nopportunity which the crisis may offer to improve policy for the future: working globally
\nmore closely together on health policy, using climate action to promote a sustainable
\nrecovery, re-thinking the world of work, future-proofing education, harnessing e-
\ncommerce and championing universal values and multilateralism.<\/p>\n

Underlines that in the coming months, it is crucial that all countries in the world continue
\nto use the proven measures against the coronavirus.<\/p>\n
An extension of the lockdown is
\nprobably inevitable, but we must reopen the schools as soon as possible were they are
