During the meeting discussed the political situation and its relations with the European Union (EU) and Latin America, as well as the situation of Dominican citizens in Spain. They also discussed the difficult situation in neighboring Haiti after the recent earthquake. \u201cIt was a very positive and fruitful meeting which I hope we continue in the future for the benefit of the Dominican Republic and the EU. We can certainly improve cooperation between the two sides in areas such as tourism and trade, \u201csaid Lopez-Isturiz.\u201d We have also reviewed the situation of the Dominican community in Spain, particularly in regions where its presence is larger, as the Community of Madrid. I expressed to President Ferna\u0301ndez my commitment to collaborate with their fellow citizens and their needs as far as possible, \u201che said.
