As planned, on 7 November 2014, CDI (CDI-IDC; Centrist Democrat International) Africa’s Regional Group held an Executive Committee session in the city of Praia, Cape Verde. The event was composed of two parts: an initial phase during the morning, with an Executive Committee session, followed by an afternoon conference held in the Parliamentary Chamber. The theme of the conference was “The Social Market Economy,” of great interest given the current social and economic situation on the African continent. During the session of CDI Africa’s Regional Executive Committee session important issues were addressed, like the establishment of the headquarters of the Regional Group in Praia, the creation of a pan-African parliamentary group, the nomination of the new vice-presidents forming the Executive Committee, as well as other important decisions supporting the activities of the African Regional Group in the coming months. Senegal’s B.C.G. (Bloc de Centristes-Gainde) was accepted as a member, and three new requests for membership were received from different parties and countries, which will undoubtedly strengthen the African regional group. Participation by member parties and invited parties was very extensive, with parties from Algeria, Gabon, Ivory Coast, Angola, Guinea Bissau, Sao Tome and Príncipe, Senegal, Brazil, Portugal, among others. The session was presided over by the president of CDI Africa’s Regional Group, the president of the MpD Party, and the mayor of Praia: Ulisses Correia. The active participation of Antonio López-Isturiz, executive secretary of the CDI, secretary general of the European Popular Party, and a member of the European Parliament, along with several ministers from African countries, greatly enriched the Executive Committee session. The conference held in the Parliament, attended by members of the Parliament, in addition to the minister of foreign affairs, and other figures, was of great interest, due to the issues addressed and the different talks given by the speakers. As part of the program the president of the republic gave a cocktail party for the distinguished members of the different parties and special guests. All the events were widely covered by the media, both TV and press, and a great number of different political figures were interviewed.
