The member parties of CDI-Africa, in interchange, are happy to acknowledge the candidacy of Mr. Jean-Claude Juncker to the high office of President of the European Commission in the wake of the European elections that will take place on May 25, 2014.
Whereas Jean-Claude Juncker is widely recognized as a great statesman, both in his country and internationally;
Whereas in addition to the foregoing, Jean-Claude Juncker held important positions in the financial world as President of the Economic and Financial Council of the European Union (ECOFIN) and also as Governor of the World Bank, having been one of the main architects of the Maastricht Treaty;
Whereas, Jean-Claude Juncker has always been a enthusiastic supporter of the ideals of peace, democracy and, above all, social integration, as essential elements for social harmony and progress of Europe;
Recognizing that Jean-Claude Juncker has been an unrelenting sponsor of the full integration of African Diaspora in Europe and as a result his election victory augurs a promising future for relations between our continent and the European Union;
